Error 404 - Page Doesn't Exist
Why This Happens
This error typically occurs when the respondent identification variable is missing from the URL when entering Sentry.
Sentry requires a respondent ID parameter (for example, rid=TestResponse1) to properly track each respondent. If this parameter is missing or incorrectly named, Sentry cannot process the session and will return a 404 error.
How to Fix It
- Confirm the correct respondent ID parameter name (e.g., rid) in your Sentry provider settings.
- Ensure your supplier is passing the exact same respondent ID variable in the URL.
- Verify the parameter is spelled correctly (case sensitive) and contains a value.
Immediately Terminated When Testing
Why This Happens
This most commonly occurs when using the Live link instead of the Test link.
When using the Live link:
- Location verification is enabled
- Deduplication protections are enabled
- All fraud prevention settings are active
If you are:
- Testing from outside the target location, or
- Entering the link multiple times with the same respondent ID
Sentry may immediately terminate the session.
How to Fix It
- Always use the Test link when conducting internal testing.
- If you must test using the Live link, we recommend temporarily disabling security settings within the Sentry project.
- To confirm whether a test response is being recorded correctly:
- Navigate to the Results page.
- Toggle “Show Test Responses” in the top-right corner.
- Review the Test column at the bottom of the Results page.
- A value of True indicates the Test link was used.
Skipping Sentry Questions and Entering the Main Survey Immediately
Why This Happens
This usually occurs when the same respondent ID value is reused.
If Sentry detects a previously used respondent ID, it recognizes the session as a returning respondent. Depending on the prior session status, Sentry may:
- Skip screening questions and redirect directly to the survey
- Immediately terminate the session
How to Fix It
- Always use a unique respondent ID value for each new test attempt.
- Avoid reusing the same test URL without modifying the respondent ID parameter.
“Invalid or Missing Redirect URL” Errors
Why This Happens
This error can occur when:
- The survey link or termination redirect URLs are not configured correctly
- Required URL variables are missing
- The supplier is not passing required return parameters
- The survey is not set up to capture incoming variables properly
How to Fix It
- Confirm the survey link includes all required variables.
- Verify the survey is configured to capture the variables your provider is passing in.
- Double-check all termination redirect links in your provider settings.
- If your survey requires only specific URL variables to be passed, refer to the “Do Not Forward Query Variables” help article for configuration instructions.
